Five for Friday and Saturday Snapshots

Completely and totally random thoughts and happenings, five of them for Five for Friday with Doodlebugs {First Grade Rocks} and some of them for Saturday Snapshots with Run! Miss Nelson's Got the Camera.

1. I have become a TV freak this summer! I have discovered that I LOVE BBC programs, especially the dramas... LOVE "Downton Abbey" and "Copper." I'm wild about "Larkrise to Candleford!" So what am I doing watching "Primeval?" Seriously, like all 36 episodes this past week? I guess one never outgrows a love for dinosaurs! LOL!

2. I love learning new things on the computer and try to constantly keep up with the latest. It seems that the latest is QR codes combined with teaching resources. I've been seeing loads of QR task cards being offered on TpT and Teacher's Notebook. I thought QR codes were only for use with iPods and iPads and SmartPhones... NOT SO! I found an app for a regular old PC. It's called QuickMark. By downloading and installing this little beauty I am able to work with, create, and read QR Codes. Here's what I created for my eighth grade Language Arts students. They had to read The Coffin Quilt by Ann Rinaldi over the summer. This is what waits for them... a QR code takes them to a Padlet wall whereon is posted a question. Sure beats the typical question and answer worksheet. I also included a "short" url in case they have no access to a QR Code reader.

3. I had the chance to work a little bit on my classroom this week. I started by spreading all the things that I have been working on this summer. There's my class jourrnals, my table signs, my MOVIES bulletin board... all the polka dot monster themed materials.

4. Here are some of my bulletin boards. You'll notice all my polka dots and monsters but you'll also see Sabra from Teaching with a Touch of Twang's genre posters... LOVE them!

5.... and a must for every Saturday... Ms. DaisyMae who is NOT very happy with me once again. She had parked herself on my lap, promptly fell asleep, and stayed there for nearly an hour while I was watching "Primeval." (see no.1 above). I was pestering her, interrupting her beauty sleep by shifting about in my rocker. I happened to have my camera nearby for a change and was able to catch this pic of her. Too bad it wasn't a video because she was muttering a bit as well. However, if she were able to speak English we would not be able to include her words.

Happy Teaching,

  1. I never get to watch TV but my aunt said Copper was great and so was Downton Abbey. Your polka dot monster theme is going to be great. Can't wait to see more pics.

  2. Yes!!!! I was waiting for a photo of Daisy Mae! Nala says HI! Nala has been a bit down for the last two weeks because Oscar moved out :( Turned out his owners love him way too much to let us keep him... but turns out they're really cool people and we've been invited over to visit him (and I assume them haha) once they've settled into their new house... they've been keeping us up to date with his adventures through their move via text.

By the way- very fancy working out how to do all the QR code stuff... I need to do that!

    1. Poor Nala, missing Oscar! Such a sweet kitty friend. You will have such fun when you discover the QR codes. I am trying to figure out more ways to use them... new addiction! Have a great week!

  3. I need to do some serious catching up on my DVR. I have been neglecting all my shows, but I can't get enough of reading everyone's blogs. I've heard wonderful things about Downton Abbey and only started about 20 minutes of the first episode. I have it in my Instant Queue though on Netflix. Ms. DaisyMae looks sleepy!

    1. My niece keeps telling me to get the DVR feature on cable, but I've resisted. I've got Netflix and Amazon Prime. Between the two it feeds my addiction well. LOL, reading the blogs...me, too! After each episode of my current show I run back to the computer or stay in my rocker and check in on the Kindle. I'm worried when I go back to school... ahhhhh, withdrawl!

    1. Thanks, Lori! The room is coming along, slowly but surely! Oh dear, I hope your day turned out for the better. I wouldn't want you feeling like DaisyMae for too long... she got out of her funk when I offered her a special kitty treat. LOL!

    1. I am soooooo angry with the season three ending! A couple of really good shows that are similar, if you haven't watched them are "Larkrise to Candleford," "Cranford," "North and South" (Richard Armitage is to die for!!!!!), "Call the Midwife," and a Victorian mystery series "The Murdoch Mysteries!" See, I said I was a BBC TV Freak. LOL!
