October Pinterest Pick 3 Party

How can it already be October 3rd? Where does the time go? Once school begins for the year it's light speed ahead for this old teacher. I'm happy that it is October; it's my favorite month. The leaves turn beautiful colors, my birthday occurs, and my favorite show makes its seasonal return during October, not to mention that it's time for another Pinterest Party!

First up is a fun writing activity for Halloween, THE HOLIDAY of October! Best part... It's FREE!

Next is a set of STEM activities that are PERFECT for October!

Finally, here's a collection of fun, fall activities for upper elementary students.

September Pinterest Pick 3

September is such a beautiful month with summer's last splash and the prospect of fall's colorful palette. School is in full swing with routines firmly established and engaging lessons ocurring. The best part about September... a brand new Pinterest linky, YAY!

I have been busily setting up my Google Drive to house my seventh grade English students' assignments. It's a daunting task, at least for me. I still have some of last year's material there that I need to remove and I'm planning on creating individual folders for each student within the class folder. Did you know that you can color code folders in Google Drive? I just learned this! LOVE IT!

And speaking of technology, if you haven't experienced this fun, oh so useful website yet, YOU HAVE TO TRY IT! Interactive, simple, and FUN, you can create digital assignments in a snap!

Take a peek at this seventh grade English assignment that we worked on the first full day of school. It was their first assignment on their school issued laptop as well their first "graded" English assignment. Every student was engaged, excited, and worked until completion! SCORE for the teacher, SCORE for Padlet! And it took me less than five minutes to set up.

Anchor charts are such a popular trend in education nowadays! I so want to make really cute, attractive, engaging anchor charts. Like this one, just perfect for one of the very first lessons that I teach!

There are sooooo many anchor charts that I would LOVE to be able to create; however, I lack the talent to make these big charts! Instead I collect pin after pin after of them!

And then I figured out a really fun way to use anchor charts in my class. You can learn more about these mini-beauties HERE! My students and I just love them, and I think you might, too!

August Pinterest Pick 3

Welcome to August's Pinterest Pick 3!
This month's linky is featuring Back-to-School pins.

Up first is a pin for some terrific bulletin boards to start your school year off. I really like the one that is shown as the cover of the pin. Besides being so simple to create and assemble, it's eye-catching!

Those who know me know that I love technology. My friends have nicknamed me the "Gadget Trash Queen." As a result, I am always seeking new projects for my kiddos that incorporate technology. There are some fun, yet so simple, classroom technology project ideas tucked away under this pin.

One of my favorite activities of all time to engage my students is task cards! In fact, I've got several sets ready to go as back-to-school skill reviews for my sixth and seventh grade ELA students.  There are so many things that you can do with them from games to assessment. Under this pin is a great list of suggestions.

July Pinterest Pick 3

I can hardly believe that it is July 3rd already! An entire month of summer break has flown by. It seems like I just posted my June Pinterest Pick 3 pins and it's now time for...

Who doesn't LOVE Pinterest? Such great ideas at your fingertips? My local college is even offering a summer PD class entitled "Pinterest for Educators." College credit to play on use Pinterest? Oh yeah!

For this month's pins I decided to concentrate on "back to school" items. Not actual lessons, per se, but rather the organizing, decorating, getting ideas kinds of pins, all those things that we teachers have already been doing. Here we go...

I don't know about you, but I am always on the look-out for ideas that can make my teaching life easier, cuter, more efficient, etc. There are many super ideas in this first pin to keep a busy teacher happy for time to come. Have fun!

This next pin makes my poor, ole file folder office cubicles look lame. I WANT THESE!!!

So simple! So brilliant! This is one I for sure am doing this coming school year. I have the tension rods already, just sitting in a  box. Time to put them to good use.

There are so many more pins that I would love to be able to share with you as you get your rooms ready for the new school year.  Instead of pinning them here for you, I'll share my board that features all of them. Peruse and pin away!

June Pinterest Pick 3 Linky

There's just something special about June 3rd! Hmmm? Could it be that today is my official first day of summer break? Yes, but that's not really it! What is so special about today? Today is the day for my favorite linky... YIPPEE!

First up is a pin for a really terrific "Back to School" bulletin board! Yep, on the first day of summer break I'm already thinking of "Back to School". Crazy, right? That's a teacher for ya!

My second pin this month is for something I've struggled with: how to assess a student's STEM activity. This site looks to provide some valuable information and insight.

This month's final pin is for a book that I've been wanting to read and use with my students. The best part? EVERY STINKIN' ELA Reading Common Core Standard can be covered while doing it! Can you say, "Woot! Woot!"

May Pinterest Pick Three

Pinterest is probably one of my most favorite apps, websites, pastimes... whatever you want to call it. As such I really look forward to the third of each month when this fun linky is held.

When you think of May, what do you think of? Memorial Day, Mothers' Day, May Day, May flowers, the end of the school year? All those things and more! Here are three pins picked just for you to use in your classroom or home during the marvelous month of May and beyond!

First up is a pin for a fun art activity created by Art with Jenny K. If you have never tried a collaborative art poster created by Jenny, give this one a whirl. My kiddos fell in love with this cooperative projects and we try to do one each month. This one is FREE!

May's second pin is for an amazingly simple Mother's Day project that can easily be adapted for any age student. While the original pin calls for simple statements to describe mom, I'm thinking of doing this one as a poem, An Ode to Mother, with one line per strip of paper.

The final pin this month is for a set of recipes that shout, "Summer!" When I saw the photo for this pin, I knew I had to repin it and SHARE!

April Pinterest Pick 3 Linky

Woot! Woot! It's time for my favorite linky!

Earth Day is celebrated each year on April 22nd. I am always looking for fun and engaging ways to include this holiday in my lessons. I hit the mother lode with this pin!

April is National Poetry Month! I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE using poetry with my students, not only in my ELA classes but also in my Science and Religion classes. This idea for a PoeTREE sounds like so much fun!

I just can't let a month go by without a pin for a STEM activity. STEM activities are this year's crop of sixers' FAVORITE classroom activity! And I have to admit, mine as well.

March 3, 2016

March Pinterest Pick 3 Linky

I can NOT believe that it is March 3rd already! Ah well, time flying by quickly is a good sign. It means that I am busy and actively engaged in productive things... things like... PINTEREST and LINKY PARTIES!

March just wouldn't be March without a salute to St. Patrick's Day. My first pick for you this month celebrates this holiday in a uniquely ELA way... writing Irish poetry: limericks!

Another fun holiday to celebrate in March is Pi Day. Celebrated on March 14th (get it? 3.14) all things Pi (pie) are remembered, practiced, and digested.

Finally, this year March is also a time for Lent and Easter.
I found (a little late) the most beautiful Lenten idea that I am going to institute in my classroom next year. Isn't this tree just gorgeous?

February 3, 2016

February Pinterest Pick 3 Linky

It's time! It's time! It's time for a little Pinterest fun!

February is designated as Black History month. I found this wonderfully interesting video to share with my sixth grade Science students that integrates a little history with their Science content.

February is a month to celebrate American Presidents. What better way than with a fun, engaging, collaborative art activity. I can't wait to do this with my class this year!

Finally, February wouldn't be complete without something about Valentine's Day. I teach in a parochial school so this day is celebrated as a holy day, a saint's feast day, as well as a fun holiday. I found something that combined the two perfectly. I can't wait to make these valentines for my kiddos.

I had several requests last month regarding how I was able to include actual pins within my Pinterest Pick 3 blog post. Pinterest offers what they call Developer Tools for its users, among them a Widget Builder. You can check it out HERE.

January's Pinterest Pick 3 Linky

I really look forward to this linky each month. It gives a GREAT excuse to play around search for important educational pins on Pinterest. WINK, WINK!

January is the month where many people look to make improvement in their life. The pins I've chosen to share with you this month center on the theme of improving our classroom management and instruction, something that I personally strive to do all the time.

I am guilty of this!

Guilty again (for a few)!

Finally, a similar pin last month was VERY popular, and Brain Breaks are a great way to help curb student misbehavior and lack of focus.
