This week for Anchors Away I'm sharing a tri-fold that is the number one "anchor" reference in my fifth grade Language Arts class. On the board are descriptions of the jobs we use in our Literature Circles as well as the behaviors we hope to engage in during circle time. Serving as a reminder, a support, a peacemaker (don't ask), et al., it has pride of place in the room. You may see students before, during, or even after a circle meeting gathering by the tri-fold to answer a question, prove a point, or look for a tip. This resource actually began as a tool for me to help my student teacher organize Literature Circles. I hadn't even planned on keeping it!

This is a great idea for Literature Circles! Too bad my little class becomes "littler" by the day - all this end of year hullaballoo gets my special needs kiddos in trouble. :(
ReplyDeleteI hear you, Lisa! Same here! I'm plugging along since we still have thirteen more days to go; lots of learning to still stuff in! We'll be finiahing this round of Literature Circles on May 30th.
DeleteGood luck! Sending lots of positive thoughts and wishes your way:)

Wow! I could have used this a few years ago when I was a reading teacher who traveled between fourth and fifth grade classrooms! I really like how it has the jobs AND the expectations! How many times a year do you organize literature circles? Thank you so much for linking up again! You're the best!
ReplyDeleteThank you SOOOO much for your kind words! {Sending you a hug}
DeleteI've had some challenging sixth grade classes the past few years so we've only been able to manage one book per quarter with Literature Circles. My fifth grade class this year is a TERRIFIC group. I didn't start circles with them until January at the semester switch. Since then we've done three books. I'm hoping to shoot for about one book per month next year with them. This is what I used to be able to accomplish (pre-texting, technology craze).
BTW, I took a page from your book and added some cute clip art to this tri-fold... MUCH improved! I'll probably share the pic later in the week. THANKS SO MUCH for the idea!
Have a GREAT week!
