What's Happenin' Wednesday? Sunshine Award

I was delighted and honored when I received this nice message from Kimberlee over at 2 Fulbright Hugs.

I wanted to nominate you for the Sunshine Blogger Award, as you add a touch of sunshine to the world of teacher blogging - thank you SO much!!

I am very happy to accept Kinberlee's nomination.

The rules of the Sunshine Blogger Award are:

1. Post 11 random facts about yourself

2. Answer the 11 questions asked by the blogger who nominated you

3. Nominate 11 bloggers you think bring sunshine to the world

4. Make up 11 questions for your nominations to answer.

11 Random Facts about Myself
1. I've been teaching for more than half my life... this is year 33, yikes!
2. I'm a mom to two beautiful feline fur babies, Daisy Mae and Lulie.
3. I LOVE music, all kinds, and play several instruments: flute, oboe, recorder, guitar, banjo, lap dulcimer, and piano (just learning this one).
4. My favorite color is green.
5. I am sorely addicted to blogging and making activities for my classroom on my computer, especially games such as ZAP!, SCOOT, or I HAVE, WHO HAS?.
6. I HATE to wash dishes (I wish I had a dish washer) and have been known to not wash dishes until I run out of clean ones to use.
7. I am a clothes hog. One of something is not enough... think the same shirt in four different colors. I've been working on this one.
8. I LOVE to use picture books to teach Language Arts skills to my middle schoolers.
9. I am addicted toNetflix... I am a series binge watcher.
10. I have lived in the same house for 52 years.
11. I have a wicked sense of humor, love to tease, and have been called the master of practical jokes.

Kimberlee's 11 Questions
1. If you were the principal of your school, what is one change you would make and why?
I would change my schedule. Because I teach sixth grade in a K-12 school we are truly in the middle. Sometimes I have to be aligned with the high school schedule which throws off the elementary schedule. It can be a scheduling nightmare and I feel guilty since it's my class that causes it.

2. What is your favorite teaching tool in your classroom?
My favorite teaching tool would have to be task cards. They are so versatile and my kiddos, even my eighth graders, love them. We do a variety of activities with them from Scoot and Scatter to assessments.

3. Tell about one student that holds a special place in your heart (I know we love them all, but choose one).
One special student was a young man who was in seventh grade the first year that I started teaching. It was he that taught me how to play the guitar. We became fast friends! He passed away a few years ago from complications from MD. I think of him still, especially everytime I play my guitar which was once his.

4. What is your hobby?
Puttering... I putter on the computer, then I putter on the piano, then I putter with my fur babies, then I putter with Netflix, etc.. and begin again.

5. What do you feel is your strength in the classroom?
My strength would have to be my knowledge of subject matter and ability/passion to impart it to my students.

6. What do you feel is your weakest area in the classroom?
Record Keeping... HATE IT!!!!!

7. What would be your one piece of advise for a beginning teacher?
Don't expect to always be successful... lessons fail. Be ready and willing to examine and criticize your work. More importantly be willing to improve!

8. Why did you become a teacher?
I have always had a drive to learn and I loved school from day one. I truly believe I was born to be a teacher. It is not my job or career; teaching is my vocation.

9. What is one thing you would change about the educational system today?
NO TESTING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There are better ways to determine if a student is learning.

10. What do you hope to accomplish this coming summer?
Take a professional development class. I'd love one on Excel or Publisher. Plus, I have loads of things to do with this old house I live in, chief among them the downstairs bathroom.

11. What is something you have too much/many of (in other words, what do you hoard)?
Paper and office supplies... I could supply Office Max! LOL!
